Yayoi Kusama: Obliteration Room | Tate Modern, London
My visit: August 2022.
Cost: Free !
What was it?
An immersive interactive installation with bright polka dot stickers to add to blank walls, furniture and floors.
Why it mattered?
I noticed that people were placing their dots to create wider collaborative messages or visuals, people were connecting anonymously. This was heartwarming to see how people wanted to leave their mark and they might not see the end results.
My takeaway:
Joyful and a simple concept that essentially you could do at home but it being contained in one space made it feel important.
Vibe:
The exhibition was part of UNIQLO Play at Tate, a family arts programme – really cool partnership since 2021. Lots of the family oriented exhibitions look really fun, I’ve enjoyed their marketing and curation.
