My visit: April 2025.
Cost: £23!!!!
What was it?
Fashion, photography, music, magazines and graphic design. Everything I love in one exhibition.
Why it mattered?
Retrospective on how The Face magazine celebrated the moods and movements in music culture and the nightlife scene from 1980 to 2004. The exhibition highlighted the insane creative and organic collaboration between the designers, models, photographers and those making The Face magazine to reflect the world at the time, often not on a lot of money or in a short time frame.
My takeaway:
The Face magazine was honest and pure at mirroring political and cultural moments through styling, experimental graphic design and innovative reporting. My personal favourites were Ewen Spencer and Elaine Constaine’s photography work.
Vibe:
Exhibition takes you on a journey of pop culture, fashion and music icons through the iconic magazine covers and revolutionary photographic content . Gives you a raw insight into British culture and the love of all things editorial – it seemed like a dreamy creative haze of fun.
