My visit: August 2022.
Cost: Free !
What was it?
Morag Myerscough’s temporary colourful installation commissioned by English Heritage situated along Hadrian’s Wall in Hexham. Exciting to see the structure as you appeared up the hill, it was also nice that this was a site-specific piece that celebrated the North East’s history.
Why it mattered?
A beautiful way to experience contemporary art in the fresh countryside air and in such a meaningful and historic location.
My takeaway:
Poetic and historical, physically being in and experiencing the view that had been used and seen 1900 years ago by the Romans at Hadrian’s Wall was a powerful way to experience art.
Vibe:
Vibrant and punchy contemporary colours contrast with the earthy landscape and the fort ruins. Bold type and patterns brought together create a dreamlike fort.
